Do We Know Our Rights?

It's often quite depressing to look inside a newspaper or watch the news with my dad on CNN or BBC. For the most part the news is never good. Earthquake in some place , famine in another, War in some place, diseases in another. My Dad and i often shake our heads and if I can't take the disappointment of listening to more bad news anymore, I often just take the remote and switch to the sports channel. It's comforting to know that none of this stuff happens to us, and so it's probably easier not to watch the news and read the newspaper, so we don't hear about rapes and killings, imprisonments and mass graves and other stuff like that. Accept that if we were to ignore these things, we are actually turning our back on the so many violations of human rights in many other countries. Maybe it's not our problem but I beg to differ.
Last week while walking out of class towards our cafe I saw a student. He was tall and a bit more mature than most. He had a more Caucasian look to him and he was wearing a T-shirt that said "Srebrenica July 2005: Never Forget". I didn't think much of it until I read this:

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/world/article/serb-general-hunted-for-massacre-to-face-tribunal/

There are people who walk among us who bear the scars and the pain and sorrow that comes with the violation of human rights, many of us have never experienced these things but you must connect with them you must show solidarity because we are human just as they are.

In watching the video " the Story of Human Rights" we look at the most precious thing we all have. It's the right  not to be treated like an animal, the right to be treated fairly and the right to be all the things you want to be and dream of being because you are an individual with a heart, soul and mind.

I'd like to hear from you and ask you what you think about the video on human right you watched last week. I'd like you to tell me what you think and what you feel about this video or how it makes you feel inside. I'd like you to be honest too and tell me why you feel the way you feel.

  1. After watching the video, then only I realized that I am so naïve. This is because I always think that the world is always fair, the people who is hardworking enough will get what they want at the end of the day. But this video has altered my perception about this world, because we won’t know that are our human right been violated or we have violated other people’s right without realizing. I started to think why people try to violate other’s human right although they know that is not right and why we do not know what human right that we actually have. Then, I found out all these happen just because of a simple humanity which is greedy. Our country leader is greed for power so he not even told us about our human right so that we will not protest on it. Those people who try to violate other’s human right are actually people that greed for money, power and many more.

I think that everyone should have to know what their right is and try to protect their own right. I know that these might be impossible, but these are just what I hope for. Human rights are rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, so as long as you are a human then you will have human rights. In addition, no one should have right to deprive other’s rights like right to get education, right to express our thought , right to free from slavery and right to marriage. But when we see in those poor countries like Afghanistan and Yemen, there is no such thing that called human rights. This is because those people there have no chance to get education, not free from slavery and most of them do not have food to eat. Then, I have questioned myself “Why they have to suffer all these while they are also a human being like us?” Actually, we all know the answer which is the violation of human right, but what we do is just keep yourself away from knowing all these and say sorry in our heart. What I want to say is we must do something to help those people when we have the ability to do so because we won’t know that will we also need to suffer those in the future.

  2. The word “human” and “right” has a very simple meaning when said individually, but can be a very powerful and strong word when said together. I didn’t know exactly what “human rights” meant, what more the effect it has on humans ever since humans exist way back to 3000BC or even before and I am not the only one. This is because we do not see the blood spill, the lives sacrificed in exchange for the human rights we have today. Many people don’t see, don’t touch therefore don’t know the importance of human rights. Some are not even aware of it like how I was. Then, I changed.

The video simply explains the development of human rights but on the other hand, also sends out the message that, to this very day, this very moment, there are still many people from all around the world who are having their rights violated from them. This video actually awakened me from my long sleep. For all this while, I thought that the only problems that exist and have to be taken care off in this world are crimes like corruption, killing, raping and diseases. Only now did I realize that human rights are very important for people to live a normal life and violating human rights is a very serious crime as it brings all forms of suffering especially slavery. Through this movie, I learnt to appreciate the rights I have today which is not visible to many people.

At this particular moment, I would like to thank those people who sacrificed their time, their lives to stand up to what they believe in, to voice out their opinion and not keep silent and to fight for the rights we all humans should have. Because of that, I am now able to sit comfortably in my air-conditioned room WRITING (right to get education) this comment with not much worries as compare to last time. Last but not least, I would like to say, I am happy I watched this video, I am glad I am given the opportunity to have a better understanding of human rights, I am lucky to be in culture and idea class as it has shed light on things I am not aware of and taught me loads of things in all aspects.

  3. What are human rights is the main question asked in the video. But many people didn’t know the answer to it. So did I. There were also questions like if humans have the right to food and shelter, why are there so many children still straving to death? If people have freedom of speech, then why are thousands of people imprisoned for speaking their minds? Why is violation of human rights still happening? And many more questions. I too ask myself those questions, but that was not the only question that popped up in my head. After watching the video, I too asked myself why are there so many people willing to sacrifice their lives to stand up to violation of human rights. Is it really worth it?
After some thinking and some research, I realized that human rights is what that enable me to live so comfortably today. It answered most of the questions. Human rights are freedom entitled to every human being. People are willing to risks their lives for freedom, for hope to a better life, a better tomorrow, for them and for future generations! It is definitely worth it. But then, violation of human rights are still happening around the world because it is optional to every country, so it’s up to the people to stand up and fight for themselves. Then so I asked myself, what can I do to stop the violation? I guess I can create awareness by telling those around me the importance of human rights, showing them examples. Maybe people nowadays are too indulge in working for luxury, they have forgotten what is really important and they might not even know many people are suffering from violation of human rights. Maybe I cannot stop the violation, but I’ll try to help. Maybe when I get to work in the future, I can donate some money to those people in need of it. I saw an interesting news in facebook, there was an old man(died at the age of 93) called “Bai Fang Li” who worked as a trichaw puller for nearly 20 years and had donated 350000yuan to help over 300 poor students. His moral ethic is what I respect most, and from there I got the idea of doing the same as him. I hope to contribute something for those who are suffering else where. This video gave me a meaning to live that life is not only about working for luxury, but also helping those in need.

  5. I feel quite crappy after watching this video, because I know that most people usually turns their back when they watch some bad news, sickness or war happening somewhere on this earth and I am one of them. I always thought that being naive and innocent in the way that I am would save me from all the trouble that I could get myself into. That I can always believe in peace, harmony and "happily ever after" without realizing that I am only covering my own eyes from the truth in reality. That there are people that are selfish enough to take power for their own profits.

But what are words, if there are no action taken? We can sit here whole day and write an essay of what we need to do to help but go out and say/do things that only brings harm to your own country, what more to say other countries.

It makes me wonder how those people like Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King.Jr ended up being who they are back then. What makes them stand up among the rest to inspire and bring justice to this world.

Again, I do admit that I have not done much good to my country. I'd ignore even the political issues happening in our country. My question would be what am I to do to be inspirational and a responsible citizen of Malaysia? I may not or will never be as inspirational as Eleanor Roosevelt or Martin Luther King Jr, but if I were to know that even the slightest thing that I do could bring good to my country, why not?

I guess this is how I honestly feel, confused and disappointed at myself. I could write a thousand words but can never cover up or repay the lives of others that has stood up and died for our sake.

  7. After watching this video again for the second time, I realized that human rights are much more complicated than it seems. Most people in the video did not know AT ALL the true meaning of human rights. I,myself do not know too till the end of this video.

Watching this video gives me a deeper thought and curiosity. Often reading the Star newspaper and coming across various current happenings and issues globally, I've realized that human rights are indeed violated EVERY SINGLE SECOND. Or maybe, even now at this very moment while I am speaking my mind out.

Question ourselves, do we even bother about the issues that we have read or seen from the daily newspaper or news? Or do we even have a second thought about it? Trust me, if we do, we wouldn't have seen or heard the ones in Africa starving in hunger and craving for food every single second. World Vision is currently trying to help those whom are in need of food and dailycare in the poor countries. If we are aware about the human rights they deserved,we should at least take initiative and sponsor a child through World Vison.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights stated that human rights apply to everyone, everywhere and globally. However, does this right still exist or applicable till today? What we are seeing today is the total opposite compared to the declaration. Freedom of speech is one of our human rights. If it is, why is Theresa Kok put into ISA (internal security act) for voicing out her opinion? Isn't it our freedom to speak out or voice out our opinions?

Starting from this very moment, we should all realized and know our very own human rights and take necessary precautions to ensure that our rights are always secured and not violated or taken away from us in anyway. We as humans, deserved to be treated equally and be given equal justice, opportunity, dignity without discrimination.

  8. “What is human right?” By having 10 people answering this question, you will get 10 different answers. However, there are still people find it hard to define its meaning. But I believe we know the simplest answer in our mind.

From my perspective, human rights means “We should be treated equally”, “I should get what I deserve” etc. Just because we are human being, we have the same heart and soul, we should be treated the same way, no matter what religion we are, the appearance we have and the financial position we are in. Having better looks or more money doesn’t mean you have the power to forbid a person’s rights.

In society, “human rights” had been listed as part of the law and agreed by most of the places. But this doesn’t improve much. People still get discriminated and tortured. This tells us that “human rights” is just a paper document, still not in reality. There’s no force of law for human rights.

When you look into the newspaper, people can be put in jail just because of speaking about their rights. This should be changed. We have the power to speak our thoughts. Even the prime minister should be listening to us.

If “human rights” are in reality, I believe there’ll be less wars, starvation, poverty and death. We as the human beings living in a universe should help and look after each other to have a peace life. We should be glad that we are living a better life compared to the old days where people were treated based on the level of hierarchy.

Lastly, I encourage that we should recognize our own rights. If they can get the best, why cant us?

  9. Human rights. Honestly, I don’t really think about it before. After watching the video, I feel that it is not a story and violation of human rights did happen and are happening in reality. I feel shame of not knowing that human rights are being violated nowadays. However, I feel grateful as this video let me know and think about human rights which are important during class lesson. And I also learned that we must be aware of what is happening in the world as it’s our right to know.

The history of human rights is shown in the video. Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela had stood up to fight for freedom and justice of their people in society. Their struggles for people’s rights have caught people’s attention about human’s right and made it a reality - Universal declaration of human rights. From this, I really think that we need to fight for our rights. We cannot evade our responsibility as human beings by just ignoring what is happening in the world in aspects of politic, economy and social.

Besides, although there is universal declaration of human rights, there is still violation of human rights in today’s society. As we can see from the video that there are still cases of slavery, imprisonment and illiteracy happening, the article 4,19 and 26 in the declaration which illustrate the prohibition of slavery, right to freedom of opinion and right to education respectively seem to be nothing in today’s world. How could this happen? There are people whose rights have been violated and they have nothing to do with that. This make me feel sad.

Lastly, I really agree with what was said in the video. Human rights are the choices we make every day as human beings and also the responsibilities to respect each other, help each other and protect those beings. This video really makes me realize that human rights are important to every single one and we must take it seriously. We must know what our rights are and let others know about it.

  10. What is human rights? Every person is entitled to certain fundamental rights, simply by the fact of being human. These are called “human rights” rather than a privilege. They are “rights” because they are things you are allowed to be, to do or to have. These rights are there for your protection against people who might want to harm or hurt you. They are also there to help us get along with each other and live in peace.

Many people know something about their rights. Generally they know they have the right to food and a safe place to stay. They know they have a right to be paid for the work they do. But there are many other rights. When human rights are not well known by people, abuses such as discrimination, intolerance, injustice, oppression and slavery can arise.

After watching this video,i feel so sad and sympathy for those who suffered and do not have food and shelter. Those people are live in poverty, not given freedom of speech and live under slavery and discriminated. In small places, close to home—so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination.

I feel that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.People are willing to risks their lives for freedom, for hope to a better life, a better tomorrow, for them and for future generations.Peoples are willing to sacrifice their lives to stand up to violation of human rights.Does it worth it to make this decision? Born out of the atrocities and enormous loss of life during World War II, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948 to provide a common understanding of what everyone’s rights are. It forms the basis for a world built on freedom, justice and peace.Although there is the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but then, violation of human rights are still happening around the world as it shows in the video. There are people who are rights have been violated and they have nothing and cannot do anything with that. This make me feel pity and sad for those people who suffered.

Lastly, this video makes me apprehend that the importance of human rights. We must know our rights and also respect one another so that discrimination will not occur. It is the choices we make to accept and agree to human rights and people should stand together to not let human rights be violated.

  11. The video to me was just a reminder on how human rights have changed our life significantly. There were feelings of gratitude as it is the reason we are living comfortably at this very moment but there are still a group of people suffering. A lot of people have also stated their opinions, appreciations toward heroes who fight for human right, and complains about how some country or government are not following the declaration of human rights. Forgive me for sounding rude but are we forgotten a certain group of people? They are around us, we do see them everywhere but we ignore them and we have forgotten that they are not being treated equally. They are the disabled.

In 2007, the United Nations has passed a new law. It stated that people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else. It also stated that all people with disabilities are equal before the law and this applies to all regardless whether they are women, girls, or even children with disabilities.

Some of the mentally derange are abused in secret, in places where we live. They was given heavy drugs to control and punish them. They were deprived of food and water. Some were chained like animals, left naked without proper sanitized area to rest their head. They did not sign up for such cruel acts. They were promised a shelter, a kind place where they would be taken care of.

While for some disabled the doctor told their health story to a bunch of strangers in the room. Their helper tells other people all sorts of stuff about them. Some of them even live a long way from shops, and have no way to get there. They were told to live with someone I don’t know. They might not even have enough money for food and clothes.

"Why not find a job?" Some of you might be thinking. The job was open, but they had no way to get that job. They were told “Hiring someone like you would cost me more than it is worth.” They too surely desire a “real” job, one that makes a difference but sadly when they went for at the interview, they will not be hired because they are assumed as not healthy.

These are just some of the sufferings faced by the disables. We all seem pretty concerned about other countries news and how their rights are violated but what about the disables in our country? Their rights too are being violated.

They are regular people and have the right to be treated as any other person.
They have an equal right to vote and have a say in laws and policies that affect us.
They have an equal right to be able to use public spaces and public services.
They have the right to an equal education, side by side with everyone else.
They have the equal right to work, in a job they choose, and to earn a decent living.

Discrimination is one wall. So is poor education and mistreatment. To break these walls, they need our support!

  12. So basically what human right? I had never ever think of it after watching the video. In the video, we can hear different kind of answer on it. But which is only the true or correct one? Actually i still don't get what is human right. In my opinion, human right are mean freedom that given to all human being just like what they show in video. In this video, we can also see how people fight for their right.

I feel sad for those people who suffered and involve in these incident. In this video, i realized that i am actually being blind in reality by those people who are selfish that took our rights secretly without notice. So therefore after watching the video, we should really recognize our own right because we should have this right once we came into this world, no one can took this right from us.

In this video, there are a lot historical people fight for their right which shown in the video. Their fight for the right had took our attention of people about human right and because of them, now we have the freedom. We should really know our own right and we just can't don't care about what had happen in the world such as politic, economy and social which related to us.

Lastly, this video really emphasize us about the importance of human rights. If we human know our right, i believe that war, discrimination doesn't happen. This is because everyone are born equal. People should respect one another and also stand together and not let human right be violated. So as the video said, KNOW YOUR RIGHT!!

  13. Human rights are basic rights that fundamentally and inherently belong to each individual. They are us and we are them. Human rights are rights that any person has as a human being. We are all human beings; we are all deserving of human rights. One cannot be true without the other.

These rights protect human from being harm or hurt by other people. They are also there to help us get along with each other and live in peace. Without them we are not free, there is no justice, we cannot speak our mind, we can be starved, we can be controlled against our will and worse.

Human have freedom of movement and residence, right to marriage and to found a family, right to gain education, right to work and many more. These rights are seen as universal, which means they are meant for everyone, no matter what their race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, age or sex.

North Korea, Burma, Iran and Syria are example of countries that don’t have human rights. They putting a person in jail because they criticize the government, taking a person's home because they are from a different country and violence toward someone because they have a different religion to the one of the abuser. Not everyone in the world believes in human rights. If people who do not believe in human rights have political power, they can hurt many people. Even if these people have no political power, they can be violent to other people.

I feel sad when I know some of them in this world still can’t get they suppose to deserve. They lost the chance to attend school, live in poverty, suffering from diseases, force to become a slave. Do you know that 15 million children in Africa die of hunger in every year? Every 3.6 seconds someone in Africa would dies of hunger? We should feel grateful for what we have now. We should not demand anything else because we are thousand times fortunate compared to those who their rights are being violated.

In this video, it shows that Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi fight for freedom for their country. They give inspiration and motivation to others to fight for equal justice and equal opportunity. Without them, we can’t enjoy what we have now. We should appreciate what they have done for us, they give us dreams and hopes. They sacrifice their life, time and energy, seek for a better life, for a brighter future. It is estimated that at least 60 million people have died or been maimed in wars and human rights abuses since 1945.

If we want a world where human rights abuses are consigned to history, then it is up to all people, as individuals, communities and nations to be vigilant, and knowledgeable about human rights. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." We should respect and recognize our rights. At the same time, we should also help those who need help, they also have the rights to get a better life, don’t let them feel that they are discriminated.

  14. I’ve never seriously thought of what human right is until I eventually watched this video and discussed my culture and idea assignment about civil right movement with my group members. They had explained to me how people fight for human rights and equality during the past and also the ‘heroes’ such as Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi who gave people inspiration to fight for their own rights. I also found information’s and images that people were being treated last time. Here then I realize how tough people life is and how people suffer before they are given the human rights.

From the video, quite a number of people found it hard to explain what human right is, and there are people who defined human rights as equal justice, equal opportunity and equality among religions. Although I’ve not experienced how people fights for their rights with or without violence, but I found it quite true. I think everyone should protect their own rights and do fight for their own dignity and freedom as human rights always applied on everyone and also everywhere no matter what nationality, sex, religion and the status we are. We should not discriminate people among religions, color of skins and race. This non-discrimination principle should be practice by everyone. This would definitely free us from dissatisfaction and arguments among human.

Everyone has the right to live, the right to choose their pathway in the future, the right for freedom, the right to be free from tortures and others. To continue our journey of life, respecting is also a key principle of human right acts. People have to be polite, well-being, being thoughtful and caring to the others. In this case, people have to be well-educated so that they can be more open-minded and would be able to accept other people opinion and the rights of other people.

Actually, I really appreciate people who sacrificed to gain the rights and freedom that I can enjoy without worries now. I felt grateful for living in this peaceful world without fights and arguments between humans. I finally realize how hard and the effort people had put in to protect our human rights. I hope everyone can take the responsibility to protect our human rights so that we would have equal justice, freedom and authority.

  16. After viewing the video, I feel very thankful that our present generation is able to taste freedom and tyranny which was won by our forefathers through great sacrifices, courage, and beliefs. I am shocked and awed to discover that the world had to suffer two world wars culminating in the needless death of millions of people who were in their prime of life and the destruction of major cities around the world in order for freedom to be restored and returned to the people. It is indeed frightening to imagine the scenario if Nazism as propagated by Germany under Adolph Hitler to have triumphed over democracy and freedom as strongly defended by Britain, USA and France. Millions of innocent citizens who were tortured, imprisoned and murdered by these authoritarian regimes in the guise of cleansing society of capitalism and purifying the thoughts of citizens a lesson to us that we should never be allowed to be swayed and influenced by any propaganda even by our own government. We should examine whatever is propagated and promoted by the government and evaluate how they can contribute to the society in terms of fairness and inclusiveness.

I strongly believe that it is natural for people to subscribe to the principles and ideals of freedom, human rights and self expression. Imagine how important human rights are to an individual so much so that such a universal principle was already strongly imbedded and defended not by specific institutions by the masses and general public hundreds of years ago in England, France and the USA. The French Revolution and the American War of Independence are some very classic examples of how the general population and masses fought to be freed from suffocating and oppressive governments of the day. The American Civil War was fought between American Citizens of the north and south and represented the different perception towards slavery and human rights.

Our society is still fraught with many challenges of human rights abuse and oppression even though many landmark decisions have been made and many individuals have fought and defended resolutely the human rights movement. The establishment of the United Nations after the Second World War, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Eleanor Roosevelt and the Non-Violent human right movement of Mahatma Gandhi, while having pushed the human right movement to such a respected and accepted ideal, nevertheless much more needs to be done. We must continue to lend support and undertake measures to eradicate human right abuses in other areas which have become more endemic in society such as poverty, hunger, discrimination, access to education and health and religious intolerance. These issues will become the flashpoint of present and future conflicts and source of possible confrontation and even wars. We must be vigilante and not let our guard down.

  17. It is quite happy for me when I’m watching the video as I’m realizing that I’m living in the decade today which people start to understand the important of human right and try to ensure that everyone has their own right for them to have freedom of religion, freedom to speak and freedom to do anything that they like. It is important for them to set the law to protect human right and I feel so excited when I see their effort to protect human rights. In order to ensure everyone are treated fairly, the heads from all the countries in the world even gather together to discuss on this topic and finally they able to change the natural rights into human rights just to make everyone has their own rights. However, sadly to say that, even though there are a lot of laws are set to protect human rights, there are still many people unable to enjoy this. Every day when I read the newspaper, I can always see the news which state that people around the world are taking part in demonstration just to remind people that they are being ignored. They do not have the chances to shout out their thinking and also their opinion. Most of them are from the poor or less developing country. They do not have the chance to get any education or any further education. Why this kind of tragedy will happen on them even though there are many laws to protect human rights? Are every human having what they really deserve or human rights are just for people who are more powerful? I believe that there are many organizations have put their effort on fighting the human rights for those small and week nations but there are not enough. Everyone should know that human rights are set for everyone not for us only. So when you are enjoying human rights, do think about others and respect others. We are deserve to have the freedom to speak, have own faith and have right to do anything which do not break the law. So, please respect other people’s right when you enjoying your own right!

  18. All humans are born equally. But all around the world, certain people's human rights are still being violated. Why? Who are they? They are human? Then who are you? Human too. But why they are been treated differently even that we are same as a human. This is unfair and can consist as illegal way because people are taking the things belong to them. I feel very complicated and upsad when i see this video, i feel so sad how come people can been treated so badly just like an animal. They just like normal human being, just because some of them have different colour of skin, or maybe born in different level society.
I feel lucky that i born as this way, i have the freedom to talk, to speech, to complain, to do, to argue, to post comment at blogspot here. But in another side/world's people don't have any freedom to do anything they want to do, but all of us have human rights, have rights to do thing. I remember in early1900 Racial segregation in the United States. They segregation the white and the black. At that time, all the benefit given to the white yet the black is torture by the white. The white is treated like a king but the black like an animal. How fair is the society that time? You have to think when you treat others like this way because others can treat u as this way back. Maybe you're the next victim in the future. Who know. And how about United States now? They are control by a black president- Obama. The world are fair, the god are fair, but osama is a good president, he control United States in a peaceful way.
But how about citizens live in a country which is don't have freedom/rights? Ofcourse they will start to do some action to take back their human rights. They are no wrong, because they are just take back the thing belongs to them. Then they started of revolution and demonstrated. The create riots and chaos just to show their civil disobedience and resistance. The purpose only 1, it is they wanna fight for their human rights. We can not criticize a thing only one side. We should think another way. Why they want to demonstrated? Because some one stamp their tail, some one treat them unfairly, their human rights have been violated. This is the same thing which is just happen in egypt 2011 revolution.
Egyptian demonstration to take back their own rights from the mubarak. The mubarak treat them very bad, they are poor and high-enployment. They cant even get a job to feed whole family. some how other social ill cause them the revolution against mubarak. Ones of the egyptian said that 'there are no hero, we are the only hero', mean that they are the only hero because nobody can help them, they only can helping theirself to fight for their own rights/everything.
Human rights as u see seem like very easy but turn to the way when u wanna do/follow , it is quite difficult and impossible. Some of the reason is because human are greedy. because of them greedy then they take over others people rights. because of this smaller cases happen (human rights violated). An a peaceful world can turn into war anytime. So the only ways is we have to protect our rights anytime. or maybe we can avoid it happen it on our state.

  21. There was a weird feeling,a feeling that I’m unsure how to describe in words.Perhaps it was a guilty feeling that I couldn’t answer that simple question too if I was asked randomly.Today we need it more than ever----human rights. The combination of the video’s soundtrack, facts, cartoony timeline really kept me awake and hungry for more.My thirst for knowledge of human rights was so strong. The informative pictures about violation of human rights today literally slapped me in the face. One third of what we see is in front of our eyes,two-thirds is behind our eyes.

From being called natural laws,to natural rights and now human rights, humans have the inalienable right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.Human rights were not made,we were born with it.In the history of mankind, every nation has to go through a series of high profile incidents that drew a huge public outcry to discover human rights. In terms of violations, many countries are secretive, only a few are open.Despite having this Universal Declaration,it’s nothing more than words on paper as the most recent waves of protests has erupted throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Some protests have become revolutions as governments such as those in Tunisia and Egypt have been overthrown.Others have not got that far but have sometimes been peaceful, other times met with very brutal repression.

I know why I felt this way.Every time I watch news about the violation of human rights,I’ll watch but I don’t do anything about it because I felt powerless to help. There was nothing I could do,I couldn’t reach them.I was WRONG.PEOPLE have the power----you & I by voting, donate energy and money, join clubs, demonstrate peacefully and support campaigns. The latest “Australia-bound immigrants to be sent to Malaysia”case relating our country, human rights are violated.Activists have often criticised Australia's attempts to set up refugee detention centres in other countries. Why did our leaders even agree when our country already plays reluctant host to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and refugees? It is a well-documented fact that they endure great hardship and abuse. The fundamental problem is that Malaysia has steadfastly refused to accede to the UN Refugee Convention. All refugees are treated as illegal immigrants, they differ in nationality but they are humans too. They are subject to arrest, detention, punishment, and deportation.6,000 refugees are caned every year, others have been trafficked to Thai gangs by corrupt local officials. In many nations and increasingly in our own,the people are ready, ready for equality and change, but their leaders are not.

Credits to this interesting video,I now know how to answer that simple yet so difficult question. What are Human Rights?Human rights are the rights simply because you’re human.I treasure my human rights now.Having this, I will fight for the others without it.

  22. What is human right mean about? We may get the different answers from people which prove that human right cannot be explain by the knowledge that we learn from books. We only can get the answer based on our experience in the life and the lessons from history which many people had been violated in the earlier years. After watched the video, I had been realized that although the world had agreed to set up human right as law, but there is still many people being violated. It is not because people didn’t follow the rule but as I say, we learn what human right based on the experience in life. Different people, different experience. So we will have our own sight about what human rights are. Maybe other people feel different from us, but there is still some of major human rights that we know as a human which is right to have needs, right to love, right to live and so on.
There is equality in this world, but still people cannot be treated fairly. But why? It is not a responsibility for only one person. The reason human right is violated because human nature to get the power and greed, they are able to scarify pain of other to exchange their own advantages. But we can consider it as one of challenge that given by god. If we believe in god, god can lead us to a brighter way. Everybody born in different background of family, and we have different culture. Although we come from different culture, speak in different language but we are still a human, a creator of god which stated in every religion.
For the example, in Malaysia, a country which is different races, everybody live in a peaceful life but honestly except for those who have strong discrimination on other races. Most of these people are the people who are the generation before Malaysia independent. Before Malaysia independent, people discriminate each other really happened. But after that, in the new generation like us, everything is fine. Because we have education about others culture, so we can understand each other. In our generation, we know the way to live together peacefully. In our country, every race can believe in different religion. Although we have different culture, but we are still Malaysian, everyone of us understand this fact and we will always stay with one heart as Malaysian.

  23. Human rights existed long time ago but no one knows the true meaning of it. People are still searching for the true meaning of human rights till today. At first I don’t even know what human rights are but after watching this video, I feel that human rights have a lot of meanings. Most of the people don’t really know what the true meaning of human rights is. In the video, different people have different kind of view and opinion on what human rights are.
First of all, this video is telling us human that we all have the same and equal human rights. However, some people’s rights are taken away. People’s food and shelter are taken away, people dying every day because of starvation, people imprison for fighting for their own rights and voicing out their own opinion, people don’t education and till today there are still slavery in this world. This shows that people’s rights are violated from them till today. Why are their rights violated from them? People who misused their power in doing things are the causes of all this. They are all human, they should not be treated like this. Who can stand for them? Human should stand and fight for their human rights by working together.
As you can see from the video, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela once great leaders of the world stood up to fight for their people’s rights to gain back their own position in society. Their hard work and their care for their people paid off. People all around the world now have same human rights. This makes everyone respect and recognized till today. By looking back at those leaders actions, I seriously suggest that we need to fight for our own respective rights. We cannot let anyone take away our human rights. We should protect it by our self.
Now I strongly agree with the video, there is no superhero fighting for our human rights. The ones that should really fight for human rights are human. Human rights are choices that we make every day as human beings. So we should all start to respect each other help each other and give love to every human on earth as god’s creations.

  24. Living here in Malaysia, I can say that I am fairly blessed with everyone having this equal rights and all. However, watching the video, I just couldn't help but wince at how cruel humanity was back then. Something so simple as giving one his or her just rights took centuries and tons of bloodshed to achieve, how low can our kind get?

Even today, when we open the newspapers, it will be of women getting raped, children being molested and even babies getting dumped in the trash. It is sad to say, but although our ancestors have fought their butts off for us, we have disappointed them, deeply. Woman in Saudi Arabia are not even allowed to drive!

The fact is rights movement are still going on, and the violation of rights are still in motion. We just cannot ignore the fact that even today, people are dying and arrested just because they're standing up for what they believe should be righteously ours. Think the battle is over? It's just starting. Human rights are bound to violated on a daily basis and as long as human exist, this chain of battle is unending

  25. What are human rights? Given out of 10, 8 shook their heads in dismay, 2 presented their answers; incorrectly. This video has projected to me the truth behind human rights as we all speak in today’s society. We live in a community which in turn pile up to make a state, proceeding to form a nation. However, human rights were still badly violated especially among women, children, workers and even MEN! We, as contributing citizens must submerge ourselves in the meaning of human rights and perform it straight away. This video may not have summarise the whole meaning of human rights but is enough to give people a wakeup call urging them to practice human rights in a proper and rightful manner.

This video has showed me how human rights came about since the Greco-Roman era and our so call modern society still could not improve on what was invented by the ancient society but instead destroy and detonating it to an invulnerable step society can ever imagine. Revolution war has proved to me on what can lack of human rights really do. Fascism shown by Adolph Hitler has proven how much disaster can violation brings to a nation that was once almighty economically. Human rights came about with the presence of Mahatma Gandhi fighting for the Indians against the British in what we call retrieving their human rights. War means that; to retrieve human rights which was once belong to theirs. Moreover, Human Declaration has shown me that human can achieve human rights, if they want to; desires to and wanting to.
