The Story Of Stuff

Hi everyone, when we were discussing the issues from the video The Story of  Stuff. I noticed some of you nodding. (I’m not sure if it’s because you are falling asleep, but I sure hope not) As a lecturer, it's really good to see things click inside your head. I've posted the video that we watched in class this week so that you can recap what you have learnt from it and hopefully you can watch it again and really think about how you feel about this video.
Here are a few questions that you might want to look at to help you think about this video that you have just watched.

1.     After you watch a video like that, how do you feel?

2.     Do you agree with what was said about the stuff we use and consume? (Do you believe what she says?)

3. What do you think we can do personally to solve some of the issues we are going through because of these problems?

Remember you have a limit to the amount you can write. Up to 350 words only so make it count. Another video will be posted together with this video below.

  1. Everyone works hard, dreaming to live luxuriously. I mean who doesn’t? I know I do. But not in a million years will it cross my mind that by shopping, I am actually hurting the planet, causing massive damage to it. This video made me realised that actually we were all fooled by corporations and advertisements but this is because it has been a culture, a norm, something we learn from our environment and not from school. It is in our mindsets that we must contribute to the "golden arrow". Trend and fashion is what most people are after. There are also techno gadgets and other personal interest. We tend to invest in these areas by shopping for it and by doing this, we are trashing the world faster than ever. This is a very important message that needs to be sent out to all over the world to create awareness that SHOPPING IS TRASHING THE PLANET.

The values one has is very important. It is obvious that those corporations see nothing but money and have shallow values in them. But it is already too late educate them, we have to take initiatives ourselves. Governments should stress on moral education for future generations to prevent the same thing from repeating. We must now change our mindsets before it is too late. Where is the better place to start then from the people around us? I think that we can try to influence as many people around us as possible in the fastest rate. There should be an awareness club organising all kinds of activities to create awareness. It is not at all useless. The planet is our home and we all have the responsibility to protect it for us and also for our future generations. I believe when people start to be aware of the seriousness of these issues, more and more people will chip in and participate. Thus, the people who are trying to influence others must be enthusiasm and energetic, show passion in what they do. Show to others that we are doing it because this is the right thing to do, and not because we have to!!!

  2. After watching the video, I feel that we, Humans do not take inisiatif in taking care of our planet, the Earth. We take Mother Nature for granted. We assume that resources on this Earth will never be depleted. If we have that perception, then we got it all wrong. In fact, God gave us an inch, and we want a yard.

I definitely agree with what she said in the video. We do not appreciate our natural resources and we used them up faster than the flow of water. What she was emphasizing in the video was about how the natural resources affect everyone lives. Take a good look all around us. Are we surrounded by greenery or high rise buildings and sky scrapers? Natural resources are not being used in the right manner causing harm to our environment. In addition to that, all types of pollution occur too because of the same reason.

We should all practice the 3R method, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. By applying it into our daily lives, we can all save the natural resources from depleting at a rapid rate. The government is also participating in this by encouraging shopping malls to participate in the Green Plastic Day.

  3. After watching the video, I strongly feel that we as a human are actually cruel and greed. As the wisest animal in the world, we have failed at the most easiest job that is take care for our planet. Even the most stupid animal, Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), would not destroy their own habitat and home with no obvious adaptive purpose. Human seems to fail for recognize that they only have one habitat at the moment and therefore should not be destroying it just yet.

I truly believe and agree with what she said. We always think that what we pay is actually the cost of the stuff. But after watching this video, I started to believe that Foxconn employees in Shenzhen who tried to end their lives are actually the victim of this booming economy. And not just only on the operating line, but there are also a lot of victims that have sacrificed themselves to fit our unlimited desires. Moreover, we do not appreciate them and waste all these resources and stuff. In addition, most of us not even aware about these problems and queuing overnight for the ipad 2.

I think we should pass the message which are stop wasting, then only we can stop destroying our home and planet to the people around us which is stop wasting, then only we can stop destroying our home and planet. Awareness must be created among the people so that they can realize the mistake which they have done all the time.

  4. 1) I have to admit the initial feeling the video really gave me, was the urge to do something for mother earth and to use our limited resources wisely. It also really cause me to be more curious in find out more info regarding to the issues mentioned in the video.

2)Regarding what was said in the video,I would certainly agree with some of the points mentioned and would also strongly disagreed with some of the others.

Some of the parts which I agree with is the "Extraction -> Production -> Distribution -> Consumption -> Disposal system",the extraction, pollution, consumption & disposal issue raised in the video.

The part I disagree on is the distribution issue. I feel that we are being manipulated into thinking that company production produces toxic with zero benefits. For those who notice there are company who recall lead-infused and unsafe product for the market. That proves that companies do care and also that their product greatly benefit mankind.

No offense but I also feel the video contain misleading, inaccurate and also exaggeration statistic plus statement in delivering it's message.

Example of exaggeration when it said 'we dip our pillows in BFR (brominated flame retardants), … , and we sleep on them!' (might not be the exact words) BFRs are used primarily in electronics and electronics plastics. It is usually encased and bonded to the components, which mean it can not be inhaled, breathed in, or enter your body unless you literally start consuming computer parts.

Example of misleading statement "40% of the waterways have become undrinkable." To start off, we do not drink from our waterways. The average people get our drinking water from reserves, not waterways. We all do purify and treat out water before retail or distribution, so the statement is misleading.

3)We can each help preserve the depleting resource which are used to generate electricity by replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent (CFLs) or LEDs and saying no to screen savers as they use 28% more energy, instead sleep the computer when away.

  5. After watching the video,I strongly agree with she pointed out that the system is in crisis because it is in fact a linear system, and we live in a finite planet, we can not run on a finite planet down a linear system. To me, this earth is created by an infinte God who knows when this earth is going to demolish. The problem with human being is that people are selfish and greedy, as they care only to focus on their own means of finding profit and wealth. They are not only ruined and trashed but literally destroyed by us, humans just for our needs, comforts and happiness.Due to this ,it's destroying our mother nature.Animals and plants will be in danger of extinction and loss of their habitat and food because of humans act.

I agree with everything in this video, but with "the computers just changes in a small piece inside".....but i think that the thing its not like that, the computers are more complex than that, the tecnology its getting better day at day, therefore the computers changes in so many thing year at year, also you can do just a upgrade to your computer, i mean "dont buy a whole new computer, just buy some parts to upgrade it. Nowadays, people tends to follow the trend to upgrade itself. They like to shop and buy new clothes, handphones and jeweleries again and again to follow the trend nowadays. They buy stuff for their own satisfaction. Besides, I feel happy and pleased because some people is willing to recycle and save the forests.

To solve this problems, people should start doing the 3R that are recycling, reusing and reducing stuff around us.Frequent disasters around the world, how can we then have the heart to find happiness from doing nothing? We should put down our selfishness to solve the current environment in our country. Please take good care of our earth, come and join the ranks of prime green!

  7. I phone! I pad 2! We want all these stuffs. It is our human nature and we work hard to get things that we desire. It is also a trend. We love to follow the trend. We don’t want to be outdated. When we buy stuffs, the only thing we think and care about is the price of stuffs. Are we afford to buy them? How can we get them at low price? However, after watching the video, I surprisingly realize that how much we pay for stuff is not just the price tag we see but more than that through the usage of stuff. I feel that we are not grateful with what we have. We are wasting stuffs and destroying our earth.

I really agree with what she said. Now, I know that others are paying for us so that we can get a cheap stuff. However, we still bargain over the price of stuff. Besides, whatever the corporations do is to boost the economy and gain profit from that. So, when they are out of resources, they exploit others’ resources to serve people in their country. It is a result of civilization. Thus, we have exploited others’ resources and even cause them to loss their health. They all suffer so that we can get a good life. However, as consumers, we don’t even think about it and just buy stuffs to enjoy our lives. As a result, depletion of resources and erosion of environment occur, causing danger to society.

Now, we should buy what we actually need. We also must use stuffs carefully and thoroughly in order to ensure long useful life of stuffs besides practising 3R. So this will reduce the disposal of stuffs per day. May be others will say that we are outdated but the main point is we are trying to save our earth, a finite planet. Furthermore, we can tell others about “The Story of Stuff” to let them realize about the seriousness of the problems we are facing. So, there will be more people care about the society and the earth.

  8. After watching the video, i feel that human are being selfish and greedy. We love to buy stuff because to follow the trend such as fashion and technology. We do not want to be outdated. Even me myself feel that too. When i want to buy stuff i just think of whether is it following the trend and the price of it. However this video make me realized that not just those two thing i have to notice but the usage i have been spending is too much.

I really agree on what she say on the video. We do not appreciate on what we have the natural resources and we used up them quickly. In a research, the reseacher found out that have actually used four earth natural resources if we continue use non stop. So do you think that it is very horrible and scary?

Besides that, i would also agree with her statement about the situation, she is stressing and stressing the critical matter to us in order to change our lifestyle that we having now. She also point out that human's bad habit that we are doing now. There are limited resources for people's unlimited wants. So therefore, she had opened up my mind that human are the greedy and wasted a lot of natural resources and destroying our mother nature.

As human being, we should really pay attention on these problem from a rising continuing it into a critical problem that we can't solve it by the time came. We should start doing the #R which is reuse, recycle and reduce. So this will help to reduce the disposal stuff per day. Therefore we should pass on these message to everyone so that we can save our mother nature from being destroy because this is not for my own but for the people who live in the earth.

  9. I think that a lot of people would have already know that these things are really happening on our planet earth. It has already been realized and shared by others. And we only feel guilty and bad every time we watch a video like this. It is the next level that we have not truly pushed ourselves into yet - Action. We already know what we need to do in saving our beloved earth. Question is, are we doing it?

  12. This video really inspired me. It lays out the problems in our consumption of “stuff” and shows how everything is linked: environmental problems with social justice issues with declining happiness. Everyone is concerned about global warming, but no one seems willing to say the fatal words: We must start consuming less. Human are irresponsible because they use up resources, pollutes the planet, poisons humans, destroys species, keeps people in poverty, and contributes to global warming.

Human pay near to the real cost of almost anything that they buy. Human don't pay to treat the poisoned children in the developing world that have no clean water because of the techniques used in materials extraction, human don't pay for a living wage for the oppressed peoples that manufacture their goods and they don't pay for their goods to be "disposed of" in any kind of a way. However, human are greedy and keep bargain over the price of stuff. They don’t realize the others are suffering due to their selfishness. This is unfair!

I agree with the statement of “We’re running out of Resources”. We’re using too much unnecessary stuff. It’s human nature to buy stuff follow the trend. I’m not surprising with the fact of 80% of the planet’s original forests are gone.

The author talks about fashion, about how media advertisements make us unsatisfied with what we have, and try to get us to buy, buy, buy. I do have some nitpicks about some of the details (contextual advertising is helpful, in my opinion), but for the most part I agree with what she said.

The whole stuff system included 5 processes: extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal. The Trash, originally from our stuffs. Human burn the trash in order to save the waste disposal cost. Toxins is released into the air and human breathe in, making them sick.

I agree that recycling help to reduce waste but how many of you would practise it? The answer is a few. Even you want too, not all stuff can be recycled.

We should be a wise consumer, only consume what is necessary, not easily influence by the media. List down what you want to buy before outing to prevent unexpected expenses. We should also fully utilize the stuff we buy until it spoils or unable to function. The workers suppose be paid with a higher salary, they deserve to receive it!

  13. After watching this video, I believe that we have become a very consumption oriented society in which people tend to consume more than what they actually need. This has contributed on one hand to a destruction and depletion of the earth’s natural resources to fuel the consumption frenzy strongly driven by governments, industrial institutions and banking tycoons of developed countries. Their insatiable appetite for consumption has delivered a deadly blow to the environment which may not be able to recover in the foreseeable future. We can see the consequences of such exploitation through our earth’s heavily polluted atmosphere, damaged eco-system from toxic waste disposal, decreasing water supply, extinction of flora and fauna increasing incidences of diseases traced to pollution and chemical exposure.

I agree to her argument that the drive towards a consumption society has to be addressed by all parties because it is not sustainable in the long term. This include the corporate and industrial institutions, the banking industry, the government and the consumers themselves in the as highlighted in the video. There has to be a drastic change in attitude and behavior of these stakeholders who have to be compelled to recognize that while massive profits are made through this approach and never ending consumption provides great pleasure in the medium term, the overall consequence caused by such wanton greed will affect all of them. A sustainable and moderate exploitation of the earth’s resources both from the production, consumption and disposable aspect must be the goal of mankind if we hope to make the world a safer and healthier place to live in. I also agree that shopping for new products just to replace the old ones which are still functioning is a temporary remedy for an individual but it is a long term disaster to Mother Nature.

As individuals and consumers, we should boycott the use of plastic bags and instead use biodegradable bags that are provided in stores. We should also learn to recycle to reduce exploitation of non renewable resources especially paper and paper products. Printing on both sides of paper should be encouraged to reduce paper usage. Another effective way to reduce pollution and emission of toxic gas is to curb the use of cars by means of car pooling or increasing the use of public transport. Products manufactured or derived from depleting resources or endangered species or environmentally unfriendly methods should be boycotted and instead we should support environmentally friendly industries. We should also conserve the use of air-conditioners as these raise the surrounding temperature and worsen global warming. Most importantly, we should reduce our weaknesses and penchant for over consumption of any product, commodity or service by evaluating our actual needs. We should also eat less meat and more planted food to reduce the pressure on the environment to produce more food to feed the animals.

  14. Well, we can Google to find out that the world population, which is the total number of living human in the planet, is keeping increase in the rates of growth, and this lead to the increase in the using of resources. After watching this video, I have to strongly mention that we, human being are merciless and selfish and even greedy. What I initially feel is that we should take very good care of our only planet and contribute for our mother earth. This is a serious problem that we should take into a cautious consideration: what if someday, we cannot tell it accurately when is it, our limited resources have been totally used up, and all those stuff around us are all synthetic materials and toxically products, how are we going to survive? World’s end.

I agreed with what the video had said but only disagreed with the saying’ toxic in toxic out’ which contribute in the part of production, we cannot assume that all those stuffs are toxically and dangerous to us, as one thing that humans do need is healthy; everyone needs healthy to live better. So we will choose to try out some nutrition and wellness products which are well free of derivatives, colour pigments and under control chemicals composition, we as a consumer too covered by warranties. As we know that there are a lots of products that is sort of synthetic chemicals such as lemon juice that selling in the market with unknown branded is just made up of no even one lemon but all chemicals and some pigments that is fit to the colour of lemon juice with no even 1% of vitamin c inside. It is quite horrible to know that.

Nowadays people like to follow the trend just not to feel like ‘I am out-of-date’, so once a new product such as I phone, ipad2 have shown up in the market, we will all crazy to own it even though we do not need them indeed. Well, because this is trendy. Actually, one needs only very little to survive, only food and a roof to protect you from the elements, everything is just luxury, so spend just only on what we need, we should learn this up to save our only planet, and our life. Do pass on the message on save green so that more and more of this society will realize how serious the problem is.

  15. There is a fact that everybody hope to live in a comfortable life. Especially in this developing country, Malaysia, the government wish to improve our country economic, one of the ways was consume and keep buying the stuff. But these ideas are wrong as we keep on buying the stuff that we no need, the stuff that we bought could be consider as trash, and after that we will throw them away. This action is wasting our sources. Moreover, we are running out of resources in this world. As we can see from the video, the 5% of people population in America had uses 30% resources in the world. This shows that the people in the world are wasting the resources more than they needed. Besides that, the society will change based on ran out resources. Originally people who suppose work as sources collector, but they were losing their job because of running out of resources. Then they have no choice to move to city and work there. One thing we have to remember, when the factory making the production, they need energy and chemical. Most of the chemical contain toxic, so when we use chemical in the production, we are just like making a completion of toxic and this product will sell to whole the world and the toxic will spread to every corner of the world. So I think we should stop this action immediately. To protect our next generation we should start take care of our environment and our health.
Ya, people will always not satisfy with what they have. They will find something new, interesting and attractable. In the rapid growth of IT era, the company will have a new idea in produce a new product for consumer everytime; we as the consumer will get attracted by the product because the newest product is better than the old one, so when we want to catch up the world step, we will keep on buying what is new, and consume as how we afford. That is the reason I believe with what she say about the resource in the earth is getting little and little. People are still use the resource in the wrong way today, and they are not awake from their mistake.

In my opinion, I think we should start to use less of the electronic such as mobile phone, portable media player or any entertainment stuff because in these electronic, there are a lot of chemical ingredients used in making process. The electronic will send out a lot of ray or harmful wave. For the example, even a small radio also uses radiowave to receive the data. Although radiowave is not harmful to human body, but it still can affect those people who are weak and it may harm human body in a long time. So we cannot ignore the power of wave or ray, because most of the entertainment electronic is play by the young generation and their body may get harm from the wave that come from electronic.
Moreover, the owner of the factory should take caution in the female worker health. The owner should respect the woman right in the factory. As female is the gender that reproduces the young leader of the country, we should respect them and understand their right. So the owner cannot force them to work when they are in pregnant because the chemical in the making process can harm them and their child.

  18. Today,we live in a “Want>Need” society. I feel that a person’s value is judged by the value of their stuff. After watching this,I started observing the behavior of people, which puzzles me. People are still getting new stuffs despite already equipped with the latest stuffs. They are unhappy or dissatisfied because materials don’t bring true happiness. Majority of peoples’ priority is getting stuff they WANT,not stuff they NEED. Stuff wanted is stuff that we don’t need to have to ensure the continuation of our survival (luxurious items) and vice versa for stuff needed (basic necessities, education). Many are willing to starve and save money for the unimportant stuff they want, neglecting stuff they need. Getting new stuff that you don’t have or has spoiled is understandable but getting a similar stuff that you already possess and still reusable is just unacceptable.

I agree, especially toxics in and toxics out. This leads us to the current issue: Taiwan’s food crisis. In three weeks 1000 products have tested positive for DEHP, tainted with plasticizer harmful to health. First,it was sports drinks, then food and now drugs. What’s next? The people are struck with fear as even instant noodles are contaminated. Selfish businessmen are literally doing anything to minimize costs and maximise profits even if it means putting consumer’s health on the line. Now,where does all the unsold short lifespan items like expired food on the shelves in the store goes to? Sadly, the answer is thrown away, polluting the environment. I was hoping for answers like “we gave it away in time”. If we were more efficient with our food globally we could solve starvation around the globe. The crux of the problem is attitude. Ignorance is never the solution as it brings us nowhere.

Our planet is in trouble! The time is NOW.

Everyone can help make a small difference by exercising simple measures daily. Simply applying 3R,spending wisely, carpooling, using reusable biodegradable bags, going digital to save paper and going green whenever possible. Companies should practice green technologies and be held directly responsible for their actions. Government should impose strict legislations to safeguard the environment, punish offenders, increase inspections and intensify awareness campaigns. However, education plays the principal role in efforts for a real change. The younger generation must be well educated with core values and knowledge in order to make a major change to save the environment as they are leaders of tomorrow. They are our biggest hope to inspire a significant change in people’s perception including the elder generation of leaders, creating innovative ways to reduce consumption and pollution.

P/s: It’s a pity that Al Gore, an environmental activist was ‘this close’ to becoming the next U.S. President in the early 2000. He could have triggered a monumental Green revolution on a global scale if he was in power.

  19. After watching this video and listening to what was said about the stuff we use in everyday life, I realised that there is much more to the consumption of a product. It is true that people often neglect the issues arising from the linear system mentioned, that is, the extraction and subsequently the production, distribution, consumption as well as the disposal process.

I personally agree with what was said in the video about thestuff we use and consume. We are indirectly destroying the environment with our own hands with every product we consume. This is because by purchasing the goods, we are supporting the process of making it which is from the extraction of the raw materials to using toxic to create it. Besides that, we have contributed to these problems with our mindset which is to sustain national economies by promoting the production of goods instead of preserving our environment or even to provide essential needs is life. For example, education and healthcare. The video also indicates that corporation power has been increasing to a level that it even exceeds the government’s power over an economy. Governments are often only concerned about the well-being of the corporations to keep the economy stable. So, they have been putting aside all the problems mankind face.

By producing huge amount of goods everyday, tonnes of waste are being disposed of by means of incineration or burying it in landfills. This only adds to the problem of pollution. In my opinion, necessary steps have to be taken either by the government, the corporation and even the people to solve our problem of over-consumption of the Earth’s finite resources. To curb this problem, it is obvious that we must start from our thoughts. People must firstly be made aware of the problems we are facing by enforcing it through the media instead of encouraging the society to shop. We should all also support recycling campaigns because recycling by far would not eradicate this issue on a big scale especially if only a handful of people recycle their waste. In addition, the government should also start to invest in renewable energy or clean technology for the long term benefit of the society.

  20. I strongly agree with this statement ‘we shop and shop and shop’. Advertisement in medias keep introducing encourage people to buy new products. So, people nowadays are consuming a lot of things including those needed one and unneeded one. However, they wouldn’t know how to appreciate things they have as they are always unsatisfied with things they have. She said that if people don’t buy things, they won’t have value. This is why we are always chasing new products and disposed those old products although things such as assets can be used more than a year and even it is still in good condition. But if one day, we have really run out of natural resources, who should be blamed? Definitely, everyone in this world including you and me.

There are five materials systems are defined in our economy. It is the extraction, production, distribution, consumption and also disposal. It is said in the video that extraction made us run out of resources. It is not surprise when it is mentioned that forest are slowly disappearing. Why? This is because most of the things we are using now are made up by the natural resources. After watching this video, I felt so regret for not appreciate things that still can be use. I shouldn’t have just dispose all unwanted things. This can be a ‘story of stuff’, but can also be a lesson for the human in this earth.

Besides that, during the production of things for us, it may lead to pollution. This is because people always simply throw of these so-called contaminated products. How about the changing of climate? The climate has slowly changing during the released of toxics. This can be very serious and it will indirectly affect people’s life. I think from this moment onwards, we have to really practice the principle of reuse, reduce and also recycle. We must always use recycle bags not only on the Saturday but everyday. We should always keep recycle bags with us so that plastic bags are not needed when we consume things.

Finally, I’m sure everyone would like to live in a beautiful environment which is free from pollutions, free from sickness and a healthy environment. Stop cutting trees and conserve the natural resources would be the most important to save the environment. This would be the most useful steps advisable now by looking of the condition of our world. Protect the earth, protect our home!

  21. Even before the video hit it's 15 minutes mark I could not help but let a yawn escape. Now, you may think of me as an individual with a disregard for the state of the environment, but truth be told, I think we all are already constantly bombared with posters, advertisements, rioting campaigns, and tv shows to NOT know what is happening to mother nature. It's nothing new, nothing fresh and it's the old facts repeated over and over again, like re runs of Rugrats after midnight. One will be imbecilic to not know how the environment is doing.

Do I agree with the lady? It depends. Some parts she was rather spot on but at some I couldn't help but scoff at how big of an exaggeration she's implying. Yes, they always say "this is not an exaggeration" but truly this old convincing media trick has seen it's end. Yes,we buy a lot of stuff, and how when new things come out, we tend to buy more and more. But hold on, what does she take us for? People with bottomless accounts and limit free credit cards? I don't see myself buying new clothes just because my old wardrobe is out of date. I just feel that
the video is not really universal and focuses really on the states alone. True, some of it applies to us, and that's just it, that SOME is not enough to justify that we consume the way the americans do. Yes, we're rusty on preventive measures for environmental pollution but still when the numbers stack up, who are the ones
    that contributed the most?

At the end of the day, yes, our actions no matter how small or how big, affects the environment in a drastic way. But huh, here's a small side note fact, studies have shown that pollution have gone down 40% since the 1960s. Why? Because unlike what the lady implies, people are actually stepping up their game in helping conserve the sanctity of our environment. Just look at the new MacBook that you haves bought, especially the packaging and compare it to the HP compaq you bought back in 2007, what do you see. A HUGE reduction in packaging size, the use of environmental friendlfy materials, and the absence of non biodegradable foam that used to plague product packaging. Now, if thats not what I call taking the step to curing mother nature, I don't know what is.

  22. Ayako Chihara:

After watching this video, I strongly feel that planet have been destroy by the human being. We using our environment to create new stuff. And all the stuff is a pollute to our planet. New stuff is keep coming and popping up towards the market. It won't be stop till the end, and ofcourse to produce all this new stuff we waste alot of energy. Some of the poor worker have low paid to produce a high risk product such as all the tecnology things.

I feels that human is greedy and selfish. They procude all the new product and sell to the customers is only for one thing - MONEY. Ya seriously every ones need money, but no in this way. We cannot earn money from taking our planet live. We are killing our planet moderately. We dispose all the toxic to the river, dispose all the acid to the air. This is not a producer should do. We should always put environment or others in the first place but not us. All of these is the fact to produce all the disease.

And for the customers, everytime think twice before you buy a thing. U should think is it necessary or no. Nowadays everyone love to shop, and obviously why we shop for? purposely to buy ourself a new thing. When we buy a new thing, then how about the old thing we already have it? ofcourse we will throw it away or keep it by a side. And thats why because of this we create more and more garbage everyday every minute ever second. Our Cuties Planet help us to swallow all this garbage we throw. And finnaly our planet is sick. Some stuff we throw maybe we just bought it, and it looks new. We are now become more greedy and greedy.

Atleast before we throw we have to separate all the rubbish, and take to recycle. Some of the others garbage we can do 'garbage enzyme', it is not only helping our environment yet for us. On the other hand,we are also helping others which is throw garbage usually. Live in a healthy environment is better than a pollute environment.

  23. After watching this video about stuff, I realize that most of the people around the world today are very selfish and self concerned. Thinking for their own self, don’t care what is really happening behind doors on how products are made. It is not a good thing when people can’t see what is real. The girl in the video explained very briefly about how products are made and disposed in many ways and the how did the making and disposing pollute our environment.
First of all, I would like to agree with her about how things work out for staff. She stated that stuff comes from steps which are extraction, production, distribution, consumption then disposal. Indeed that is very true, bad things happens during all the process. Whenever people want to process some product they look for recourses and they don’t care about anything and just wipe out all the recourses that the earth has without thinking what are the negative effects are. Some people don’t have anything to do for a living. So, they are forced to work in a factory and exposed to chemicals. Most of the times, the workers are paid in a low price for their work. But somehow, the products are sold to the public with a very low price. Maybe those people who work in the factory might get some diseases and it might be costly for the workers. So I think people are buying things for not the real price.
After that, consumers continue buying things and don’t stop because of the psychology in economy. They keep changing designs and fashion of models because they want people to keep consuming. When people consume, it brings a meaning of cash flow in the nation. That brings earnings for the cooperation and government. The negative side of this is, when people keep consuming, more and more trash are formed and needed to be disposed. When more and more things are disposed, more and more toxics are produced to pollute the environment. This is not a good sign
I think to protect and conserve the environment and protect our earth from being destroyed, I think we should just follow her way which is using the new way of thinking. We should be thinking for our own future and the human’s future. We want to live in a place where there are less pollutions and leave a healthy life style. So, we should all preserve and fight for the nature for our own good by just changing our mindset to a new one and people should be united to do this. We also need to take back our government so that government is really by the people and for the people.

  24. I totally agree with what had been said in the video. Well, for me, I think that, as a human living on the earth, we should not keep wasting stuff like that, as it will cause pollution to the earth. Some of them even knowing they are wasting the stuff but they just pretend they do not realizing it. This is because this kind of people think that if they are the only who stop wasting stuff then it just make no difference on it. However, this is a very wrong mindset! If everyone has this kind of thinking, then no one will start to stop buying, wasting and even producing the stuff. Thus, the earth will slowly destroy by us, HUMAN.
So, I think this kind of thinking should be changed since now! For example, in primary school, children should be taught not to buy things which are not really needed since standard one. Not only that, government should encourage people start reducing the waste, reusing stuff which can still be used and recycling stuff which can be recycle.

  25. After watching the video, I feel that human are really selfish and greedy. Human nowadays love to purchase as much as they want without thinking if they really need all that stuff.

Well, after purchasing all that stuff, they did not take care of it well. This is because they can just easily get it by money. So when the lifetime of the stuff come to an end or even there is only a little spoilt on it, they just simply throw it into dustbin to get rid of it. And buy a new one. As these process going on, they did not even think of how the products have been produced, how much of materials have been used up in the process.

So now is the time to stop this problem from continuing. Firstly, it should be start from every individual. Individual should purchase stuff rationally. The most rational way to purchase is to buy stuff which you really needed and not just simply buy what you want. If process of producing and consuming stuff continue going on like this, for sure our earth will soon be destroyed. So let us work together to stop this phenomena!
